TAWAS CITY – Officials at Tawas Area High School have named the valedictorians, salutatorians and the remaining top 10 students for the Class of 2020.

Tawas Area High School has five valedictorians, each with perfect 4.0 grade point averages (GPA). They are Brady T. Jacot, Logan A. Madrigal-Silver, Kara L. McKinley, Ammy Nguyen and Gavin S. Swartz-Barnes.

The salutatorians are Lexi L. Lajoice and Sophia Beatrice A. Pacia. Rounding out the Class of 2020’s top 10 are Ethan F. Haire, Sophie F. Rogers and Allie V. Morand.

TAHSJacot

Brady T. Jacot

Jacot has a grade point average of 4.0. He is the son of Michal and Laurie Jacot of East Tawas. 

His high school activities include band/music (four years), Drum Major (two years), theater (four years),Knowledge Bowl (four years), STEM Club (one year), National Honors Society (three years), Class Representative (two years), Spanish Club (three years). He is employed by Tawas Bay Pizza Company.

Jacot plans to attend Oakland University to pursue a degree in mathematics and music.

TAHSMadrigal-Silver

Logan A. Madrigal-Silver

Madrigal-Silver has a GPA of 4.0. He is the son of Hernides Madrigal-Rodriguez and Stephanie Silver of East Tawas.

His high school activities include wrestling (four years), cross country (three years), track and field (three years), Robotics (four years), Knowledge Bowl (four years), National Honor Society (three years), Marching Band (two years) and Latin Club (one year).He is employed by Hemphill and Schirmer Construction.

Madrigal-Silver plans to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology to pursue a degree in astrophysics.

TAHSMCKINLEY

Kara L. McKinley

McKinley has a GPA of 4.0. She is the daughter of Otis and Sara McKinley of AuGres.

Her high school activities include Activities: soccer (three years), volleyball (three years), STEM (one year), National Honor Society (three years), Spanish Club (four years), Youth Advisory Council (YAC) (three years), YAC secretary (two years), Class Representative (two years), Pink Power Walk (four years) and Earth Crew (one year). She is employed by O’Connor’s Pendleton. 

McKinley plans to attend Grand Valley State University to study pre-dental and pursue a degree in biomedical science.

Ammy Nguyen

Nguyen has a GPA of 4.0. She is the daughter of Tommy and Kim Nguyen of East Tawas.

Her high school activities include Activities: Spanish Club (four years), Youth Advisory Council (three years), Drama Club (three years), Knowledge Bowl (four years), National Honors Society (two years), Student Senate (one year), STEM Club (one year), Latin Club (one year) and youth member of Tawas Area Chamber of Commerce (one year).

Nguyen plans to attend Central Michigan University to pursue a degree in pre-medicine with a major in biological and biomedical science.

TAHSSwartz-Barnes

Gavin S. Swartz-Barnes

Swartz-Barnes has a GPA of 4.0. He is the son of Jeff Barnes and Jennifer Swartz of National City.

His high school activities include Knowledge Bowl (four years), Student Senate (one year), Robotics team (three years), Spanish Club (three years), Drama Club (three years), STEM club (one year), Student Board (one year), Witz End Productions (four years), Tawas Bay Players (one year) and National Honors Society (three years). He is employed by Tawas Bay Pizza Company.

Lexi L. Lajoice

Swartz-Barnes plans to attend University of Michigan to pursue a degree in computer engineering.

Lajoice has a GPA of 3.993. She is the daughter of Jason and Melissa Lajoice of Tawas City.

Her high school activities include Activities: swimming (four years), softball (four years), basketball (four years), National Honor Society (three years), Student Senate (two years), Spanish Club (four years), Drama Club (one year), Junior Class Board (one year), Holy Family Youth Group (two years) and Earth Crew (one year). She is employed by Mr. Jack’ss Sports Bar and Grill. 

Lajoice plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University to pursue a degree in education.

Sophia Beatrice A. Pacia

Pacia has a GPA of 3.993. She is the daughter of Fernando and Ester Pacia of East Tawas.

Her high school activities include volleyball (two years), track and field (two years), Spanish Club (four years), Student Senate (three years), Earth Crew (one year), National Honor Society (two years), Class Board (one year), Drama Club (one year), Student Leadership (one year) and Holy Family Youth Group (two years).She is employed at the Windjammer store.

Pacia plans to attend Grand Valley State University to pursue a degree in nursing.

TAHSHAIRE

Ethan F. Haire

Haire has a GPA of 3.992. He is the son of Michael and Sarah Haire of East Tawas.

His high school activities include Activities: hockey (two years), golf (three years), soccer (two years), Spanish Club (three years), National Honor Society (three years), Junior Class Board (one year) and Church Youth Group. He is employed as a manager at Marion’s Dairy Bar.

Haire plans to attend University of Michigan to pursue a degree in chemical engineering.

TAHSROGERS

Sophie F. Rogers

Rogers has a GPA of 3.950. She is the daughter of Mark and Amy Rogers of East Tawas.

Her high school activities include cross country (two years), Youth Advisory Council (four years), Student Senate (four years), National Honors Society (three years), Class Board Member (two years), Spanish Club (three years), Iosco PRIDE (three years), Drama Club (two years) and Lakeshore Catholic Youth Group (four years). She is employed by Mr. Jack’ss Sports Bar and Grill. 

Rogers plans to attend either Michigan State University or Grand Valley State University to pursue a degree in business and humanities.

TAHSMORAND

Allie V. Morand

Morand has a GPA of 3.919. She is the daughter of Bob and Becky Morand of East Tawas.

Her high school activities include volleyball (four years), track (four years), Spanish Club (four years), Student Senate (four years), Youth Advisory Council (four years), National Honor Society (three years), Class Board Representative (two years), Student Leadership (one year), coach junior high volleyball (two years), Drama Club (one year) and Holy Family Youth Group (four years). She is employed by the Village Chocolatier.

Morand plans to attend Central Michigan University to pursue a degree in physical therapy.
