Three Cub Scouts from AuGres, from left, Josiah Butler, Blaise Freeman and Wayne Freeman, gave a presentation at the American Legion Auxiliary meeting, formally asking to be part of the Flag Day ceremony. The scouts were presented with five American flags that they, and Girl Scouts, will use in the community to earn badges.

EAST TAWAS – Tawas Area Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 211 will be hold a flag cremation ceremony on Friday, June 14 at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Cemetery in East Tawas.

Worn and tattered American flags will be given a proper retirement ceremony. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts from the Tawases and AuGres will attend to learn about the folds of the flag, flag etiquette as well as help with the ceremony. Members of U.S. Coast Guard Station Tawas, police, firefighters and veterans will be recognized by the scouts.

The public is invited to attend.

There are worn flag drop off boxes at the American Legion Post, East Tawas Community Center and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5678 in Tawas City.
