RENO Twp. – The Michigan State Police (MSP) issued a citation for careless/negligent action to a pickup truck driver who collided with a horse buggy in Reno Township on June 12.

The incident occurred on M-65, near Carpenter Road, at 3:47 p.m.

The MSP states that Joshua Willard Watkins, 34, Hale, was traveling north on M-65 when he impacted an Amish horse and buggy, also traveling north on the same road.

The buggy was disabled and the sole occupant – Amos O Miller, 21, Clare – sustained non-incapacitating injuries. He was transported by Iosco County EMS to Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City.

While the horse sustained a minor injury, MSP Sgt. Douglas Gough advised that the animal was able to walk into a trailer, was taken home and is expected to make a full recovery.

Watkins was unharmed during the event, and his Chevrolet Silverado experienced functional damage.

According to police, neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash.
