W-P baseball takes second at Boyne tourney by Doreen Fouchey BAY CITY - The Whittemore-Prescott girls track team finished second at John Glenn with 42 points on Wednesday, April 30.
Taking top honors for the team was Snowy DeCain for her first place finish in the 200-meter dash, the 800-meter relay with teammates Jessica Dietzel, Staci Ostrander and Epifania Gonzalez and the 400-meter relay with teammates Dietzel, Nina Menke and Rochelle Cotoio. DeCain also finished second in the 1,600-meter relay with Jessica Hamacher, Chelsea MacDonald and Menke, who was first in the 100-meter dash, followed by teammates Lindsay Zanon and Melissa Grauherr in second and third places, respectively. Zanon also was fourth in the discus.
Janette Gonzalez was first in the 300-meter low hurdles, while Epifania Gonzalez took second.
Also finishing in second place for W-P was the 3,200-meter relay team of Janette Gonzalez, Heather Ostrander, MacDonald and Hamacher. Hamacher also took second in the long jump. Rochelle Cotoio and Amber Ridley followed with third and fourth place finishes in the long jump. Ostrander was second in the 800-meter run, with Chelsea MacDonald taking third. Ostrander also was second in the 400-meter dash, while Hamacher was third.
Taking third for the team was MacDonald in the 1,600-meter run, as Janette Gonzalez was fourth. Dietzel placed third in the 200-meter dash and was followed by Cotoio at fourth.
Whittemore-Prescott will host Oscoda today (Wednesday) and will travel to Ogemaw-Heights on Monday, May 12.
