TAWAS CITY – The Iosco County Board of Commissioners (BOC) formally announced its opposition to relocating refugees to the county from the federal refugee resettlement program, rejecting state funds assisting in the program, by resolution, during its meeting on Sept. 7.
The resolution identifies the BOC as an elected governing body authorized to adopt appropriate ordinances, resolutions and police powers to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the county.
The concept was brought to the Committee of the Whole at its Aug. 17 meeting and was approved by the committee to bring it forward as a resolution. It was introduced by Commissioner Jeffrey Johnston.
