BALDWIN TWP. – A Caro man’s 10-point buck is the current leader in the 2012 Oscoda Press and Iosco County News-Herald Big Buck Bonanza contest.
The buck was shot by Shawn Petri, 40, in the early afternoon of opening day in Turner.
Petri’s entry weighed in at 154 pounds dressed and had a spread of 21.5 inches. As per the contest points, Petri’s buck earned the hunter 225.5 points.
Points are awarded on total antler points, the antler spread and the weight of the dressed deer. Entries must come from either Iosco, Arenac or Alcona counties.
The second largest deer recorded belonged to Mike Russo, 49 Tawas City, who shot his 10-point buck in Alabaster Township. The deer weighed 155 pounds dressed, had an antler spread of 13.75 inches and scored Russo 218.75 points.
Howell resident Jake Wright, 27, bagged the weekend’s third largest buck, an Alabaster Township 9-pointer. The animal weighted in at 156 pounds dressed and had an antler spread of 15.25 inches. The deer was good for 216.25 points.
