OSCODA – The Oscoda-AuSable Chamber of Commerce (OACC) Golf Challenge Annual Education Fundraiser returns on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Logger’s Trace at Springport in Harrisville.

Similar to the past, the competition will be a four person scramble which allows every member of the team to tee off. Every team will begin on a different numbered hole. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start will begin 9 a.m.

Registration for the event will be available until the day of; however, OACC Executive Director June Wygant would like participants to bear in mind that only 10 team spots are available, at press time. Registration fees are $75 per golfer and $300 per team.

“We invite singletons or duos to go ahead and put in their registration and we will cobble together teams for them or they can cobble together a team right at registration,” said Wygant.

The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, a surprise tee gift, complimentary breakfast, bottled water, fresh fruit, a box lunch, auctions and raffles. All proceeds from the event will go towards a scholarship.

“Unfortunately because we didn’t have the event last year we were not able to do our scholarship which was a big bummer, so many people on the board are really excited, myself included, to be doing something to give back to the community since we were not able to do events,” said Wygant.

She went on to say that the event is a great way for the business members and the community to connect. The event will be limited to 18 teams, so one team on each hole. A few changes made this year include the amount of teams allowed, a name change to the tournament and the absence of an end of the day dinner gathering in order to remain COVID compliant, according to Wygant.

Additionally, she said the chamber is still looking for lunch and breakfast sponsors, as well as, hole and game sponsors.

“Anyone that did a sponsorship last year, we will honor all those sponsorships, as well as, any registrations that people already paid, so if they already paid we have record of their payment and we will honor that for this year,” said Wygant.

Lunch and breakfast sponsors are $125 while hole and game sponsorships are $60.

“This is another reason I love  the golf event because it gives businesses a chance to sponsor and get in on something where they don’t have to make a gigantic financial commitment. They get to get their name out there.

The sponsorship deadline will be on Saturday, Sept. 5. Those interested in registering for the tournament or purchasing a sponsorship can fill out a form from the OACC office and drop it off, email it in or send a hard copy in the mail.

Wygant said she prefers if forms are dropped off at the chamber or the Oscoda Irish Pub. Further, the golf challenge is being made possible by committee members including Terri and JK McKay, Kathy Morgan Jones, Wygant, Judy Kotarak and Heidi Brock.
