EAST TAWAS – Members of Tawas Bay Art Gallery, in partnership with the East Tawas businesses, are holding their ninth annual Art Stroll in downtown East Tawas Friday.

Residents and visitors will “Stroll” Newman Street, meet artists and view their exhibited work during the extended business hours, from 4 to 8 p.m.

“Art lovers can stroll the streets, listen to music by local musicians, talk to the artists and merchants and dine in local restaurants,” said Paula Parise, a member of Tawas Bay Art Gallery’s marketing committee. “They can view and purchase art by artists from up and down the Sunrise coast. There will also be new and exciting artwork displayed by students from the high school art programs.”

Parise said Art Stroll can begin at either end of Newman Street. Art Stroll passports, and a list of participating artists and businesses, can be picked up at Tawas Bay Art Gallery or Village Chocolatier.

She said completed passports will be entered into a drawing for one of two paintings by award winning artist Bear Medicinewalker or Betty Fahselt, that are on display at the gallery. The gallery will also host a silent auction of artwork, goods or services donated by the artists and local merchants.

Profits from the event will aid Tawas Area High School art and music programs and Tawas Bay Art Gallery.

This year’s Stroll will usher in the Sunrise Solstice Art and Music Festival to be held June 15 at Shoreline Park. Klenow’s Market and the Solstice Committee will provide a luncheon for Stroll volunteers, musicians and artists, and for sponsors of the Art Stroll and the Solstice festival.
