TAWAS CITY – Needy children were able to “Shop With a Hero,” Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Walmart of Tawas City through a program organized by the East Tawas Michigan State Police detachment.
Trooper Mike Brown said 32 children from all corners of Iosco County were paired with county law enforcement, fire and emergency medical personnel to shop.
The children were each given a $75 Walmart gift card to buy presents for family members and themselves. After the shopping spree, the children and their mentors were treated to dinner at the Subway in Walmart.
Brown, who took the helm to organize the event, said it nearly didn’t happen this year due to lack of funding.
