OSCODA – The Oscoda Campus of Alpena Community College (ACC) has announced the launch of its quarterly ACC Talks program – which is being described as the institute’s version of TED Talks for Northern Michigan.

The ACC Talks event which has been slated for Thursday, Dec. 5, will feature guest speaker David Jesse of the Detroit Free Press, who has been covering higher education issues in Michigan for more than a decade.

The topic of his presentation is “Rural Education Deserts,” and the talk will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. It will take place in room 213 of ACC’s Oscoda Campus, located at 5800 Skeel Ave.

Representatives of the college note that attendees will be able to listen to the insights, thoughts and observations Jesse experienced as he researched and prepared his series on educational challenges in rural Michigan.

According to those from ACC, Jesse was named by the Education Writer’s Association as the top education reporter in the country for 2018.

Five- to 10-minute speed tours of the Oscoda Campus building will occur before and after the presentation, as well.
