A structure fire at 1:38 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 17, expected to be caused by a electrical issue resulted in a total loss of the home. Oscoda Township Fire Department required assistance from the East Tawas Fire Department to put the flames out.

OSCODA – The Oscoda Township Fire Department (OTFD) responded to a structure fire , which resulted in a total loss, on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 1:38 a.m., located at 6376 Westshore Drive, along F-41. 

According to a report provided by the OTFD, firefighters arrived on scene at 1:44 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters saw the house ablaze. According to OTFD Chief Allan MacGregor, the home was owned by Wilbur Brown who was hearing noises in his attic so he decided to investigate and the attic appeared on fire. There is no confirmed cause, but MacGregor expects it was electrical. There is no suspicion of foul play, he said. According to the report, an East Tawas firefighter sustained a twisted knee injury. 

According to the aforementioned report, the house experienced a total loss. Firefighters used 30,000 to 50,000 gallons of water with assistance from the East Tawas Fire Department, The Oscoda Police Department and the Iosco County EMS. Emergency personnel were on scene until approximately 6 a.m. According to MacGregor, high winds and cold temperatures made it difficult to put the flames out.
