TAWAS CITY - Jimmy Allen Nelson, 58, Oscoda, was sentenced on Monday to 25 to 50 years in a state prison for the 1980 murder of an Oscoda woman.
The sentence was handed down by 23rd Circuit Judge William F. Myles one month and four days after Myles found Nelson guilty of 2nd-degree murder in the presumed death of 21-year-old Cherita Janice Thomas.
Nelson’s attorney, Terry Ekdahl, told the judge he had asked Nelson if he would want to enter into some kind of agreement with the court, presumably for leniency in exchange for the location of Thomas’s body.
Ekdahl said Nelson has always maintained that he is innocent and said he did not want any kind of plea agreement.
