EAST TAWAS – To recognize those who have served in the nation’s military, events will be held throughout Iosco County in honor of Veterans Day.
Tawas Area Schools (TAS) will kick things off early on Friday, Nov. 10, with the district’s 22nd annual Veterans Day assembly.
The event will take place in the gymnasium of the high school campus, located at 245 W. M-55 in Tawas City.
TAS Superintendent Jeffrey Hutchison shared that both veterans and the public will be welcomed to the assembly, with doors opening at 9:30 a.m.
He added that students will recite patriotic poems, members of the Tawas Area Honor Guard will carry out the Posting of Colors and performances will be given by the Tawas Area band and choir.
Another event in Tawas City will take place on Veterans Day, which is Saturday, Nov. 11.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tawas Area Elks Lodge No. 2525 will hold its annual Veterans Day Dinner.
The lodge is located at 1002 Monument Rd. and all veterans from all branches of the military are welcome and encouraged to attend.
The food will be prepared and served by members of the U.S. Coast Guard, with the fare consisting of ham, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, rolls and dessert.

Also taking place on Veterans Day, at 11 a.m., will be a joint celebration between members of Oscoda American Legion Post 274 and Oscoda Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3735.
The event will be held at the Legion hall, located at 349 S. State St. in Oscoda, and will feature speakers from each organization.
A luncheon will be served following the ceremony, which is open to the public. More information can be had by calling 739-5121.
The Hale Area Veterans group will hold a formal Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11, beginning at 11 a.m.
The observance will feature members of Hale VFW Post 7435, American Legion Post 422 and Hale Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 822, as well as the associates and auxiliary members affiliated with these organizations.
The event, which is open to the public, will take place at the VFW post in Hale, located at 203 Ainsley St.
