OSCODA – An Oscoda man who collected more than 300 pieces of digital child pornography was sentenced to 23 years to seven years in prison for his crimes.
Charles Levi Williams, 41, pleaded no contest to two counts each of attempted child sexually abusive material or activity and distributing/promoting child sexually abusive material.
As part of his plea deal one count of child sexually abusive material and two counts of child sexually abusive activity, were dismissed. Williams must also comply with the Michigan Sex Offender Registry.
Authorities were tipped to Williams’ child pornography activity after information was provided to the Michigan State Police (MSP) by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which received several reports of child sexually abusive material (CSAM) activity from Google and Instagram.
Court records state that these sources report that the username “Charles Williams” and “Charles L. Williams” utilized an Internet Protocol (IP) address to upload CSAM to the Internet.
Search warrants were obtained for the contents of the suspect Google accounts, in which 128 files of supposed CSAM were located. A search warrant was also obtained for the subscriber information regarding who was using the suspected IP address at the time of the alleged uploads.
Troopers said Charter Communications identified Williams as the subscriber and a search warrant was executed at his home and troopers interviewed him. Troopers found several electronic devices that were seized from the residence and a digital analysis was completed on each.
Child pornography was found on an SD card, a cell phone, laptop and USB thumb drives, as well as William’s cell phone.
Suspected CSAM was allegedly located on an SD card, a cell phone, a laptop computer and two USB thumb drives.
Troopers said that through an investigation, it was determined that Williams sent two images of child porn over message service, one of which involved an infant.
In total, troopers said 90 videos and 254 images of suspected CSAM were located on the seized devices.
After the investigation, Williams was arrested and lodged. Troopers ask that anyone with information regarding possible child sexual exploitation to report it to the CyberTipLine at www.missingkids.org/cybertipline.
