OSCODA – The Oscoda Township Police Department (OTPD) was dispatched to a single-vehicle crash, shortly after 4 p.m. on Jan. 28.
Authorities advise that Nicholas Justin Carafelly, 18, Oscoda, was southbound on F-41 at the time, near Colbath Road.
According to the OTPD, Carafelly stated that he dozed off while driving.
Police note that the Chevrolet Malibu he was operating went off the roadway on the west side of the road. Carafelly hit the ditch and continued in the ditch, then struck an embankment which caused the vehicle to leave the ground.
The car landed on the other side of the embankment, continuing in the ditch, then hit a couple of fence posts before coming to a stop.
The OTPD reports that Carafelly, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained possible injuries. The vehicle he was driving experienced functional damage and had to be towed from the crash site.
Police state that neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have contributed to the event.
