CUMMING Twp. – Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) West Branch Post were dispatched on May 8, at approximately 2:20 a.m., to Peters Road and M-33 for a two-vehicle personal injury traffic crash.

The collision occurred in Cumming Township, located in Ogemaw County.

Timothy Guoan, 20, Rose City, was northbound on M-33 in a 2000 Ford Mustang, while a 30-year-old West Bloomfield woman was southbound on M-33, operating a 2006 Ford Explorer.

Police report that Guoan’s vehicle crossed the center line of the roadway into the path of the Ford Explorer, causing a head-on collision. Both vehicles sustained catastrophic damage from the impact.

Guoan suffered extensive trauma and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Explorer and her two passengers suffered minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital. One of these passengers – a 10-week-old infant – was properly secured in a child car seat, which police say most likely saved the life of the baby, considering the nature of the collision.

The traffic crash remains under investigation by troopers from the West Branch Post.

MSP personnel were assisted at the scene by an MSP Technical Crash Investigator, the Ogemaw Rural Fire Department and Ogemaw County EMS.
