OSCODA – The Oscoda Township Fire Department (OTFD) responded to a structure fire and smoke-filled crawl space at Emerald Apartments, located at 7985 N M-65., on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 11:54 a.m. 

According to a report provided by the OTFD, upon arrival firefighters made sure that all occupants exited safely and were accounted for. Firefighters also contacted Consumers Energy and DTE Energy. 

According to the aforementioned report, after further investigation, emergency personnel indicated an incipient fire had begun to develop causing minor amounts of charring damage at an exit/entry threshold. Firefighters used water/foam extinguishers and a thermal imager to confirm no further extension of fire danger. 

The OTFD requested mutual aid from the Plainfield Township Fire Department and the South-Branch Fire Department and requested that East Tawas be on standby at the station. Emergency personnel spent approximately one hour and 39 minutes on scene.
