WHITTEMORE – Longtime baseball coach Ed Mervyn has seen a lot of good teams in what will be his 32nd season guiding the Whittemore-Prescott Cardinals. While he won’t tip his hat on exactly how good this year’s team will be, he still likes what he sees.
“I think we’re going to be OK,” Mervyn said. “I think our pitching is going to be OK and our defense will be adequate. We haven’t hit the ball real well, not like I think we can yet this year, but it’s early. I have some good athletes so I think they will end up hitting.”
Returning to the team are seniors Nathan Scoles (catcher), Caleb Engster (center field), juniors Tyler Janish (pitcher, shortstop), Jordon Runyon (first base), Zach Baker (pitcher, third base), Tyler Parker (left field), Garrett Galbraith (second base), sophomores Jens Gillings (catcher) and Jose Rodriguez (right field).
New to the team are seniors Dominic Hart (left field), Dakota Harrington (outfield) and sophomore Ivan Lauria (third base, pitcher).
