HALE – Alyvia Smith, 14, Hale, has scheduled her second outdoor movie event to raise funds for the Iosco County Animal Shelter in Tawas City.

The showing will take place tomorrow (Thursday) behind the Plainfield Township Library, located at 220 N. Washington St. (M-65) in downtown Hale. Smith said the movie is set to roll at 9 p.m., but attendees may arrive early since the plan is to also have some adoptable animals on hand to interact with before the show.

Smith will be playing the film “Isle of Dogs” on a screen outdoors, with admission being a monetary donation and/or contributions of supplies to the shelter.

She notes that there is a new wish list of items for the facility, particularly bleach, cat food and kitten food/pâté. The shelter is overseen by the Iosco County Humane Society and, for more information on other supplies needed for the animals, visit www.facebook.com/iosco.society or call 362-3170. Smith will also be selling refreshments, popcorn and candy during the movie, as a way to further support the shelter.

As recently reported, she hosted her first movie fundraiser in June, playing “The Secret Life of Pets” on the grounds of Plainfield Township Hall. She reported having an even better turnout than anticipated, adding that she intends to hold similar events each month to help out the animals.

Her commitment to the cause is clear and, when this reporter spoke to her on the phone about the latest fundraiser, she just so happened to be volunteering at the shelter at the time.

Smith has volunteered at the facility in the past, as well, and points out that donations are always appreciated. As she shared previously, she has witnessed staff members and other helpers paying for things out of their own pockets, in addition to fostering/adopting animals when space at the shelter is stretched thin.
