OSCODA – The Oscoda Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) is bringing back its summer movie series for 2020, with the first showing set for tonight (Wednesday).
Movies by the Pier will again be held at the bandshell of Oscoda Beach Park, located along Lake Huron at 201 E. River Rd.
CVB representative Erin Kellstrom states that the movies will run on Wednesday nights, for a total of nine weeks – through Sept. 2 – beginning at dusk.
The first film they will feature is “Toy Story 4,” which is rated G.
Weather permitting, Kellstrom says the CVB intends to set up by 8 p.m., with games and activities for children.
“The CVB owns the movie equipment and it is our intent to provide all the movies this season,” she wrote in a letter to Oscoda Township, when seeking approval to host the events.
The CVB has also requested Fridays as rain dates, should the normally scheduled Wednesday movie nights be cancelled due to weather. However, for the last movie on Aug. 26, they have asked for a back-up date of Saturday, Aug. 29.
In a unanimous vote, the Oscoda Township Board of Trustees approved the Movies by the Pier events for this season.
The shows are free to attend, and movie goers are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair for their comfort.
Following this week’s movie, the CVB intends to show “Sonic the Hedgehog,” July 15; “Avengers: Endgame,” July 22; “Playing With Fire,” July 29; “A Dog’s Journey,” Aug. 5; “Abominable,” Aug. 12; “The Little Rascals,” Aug. 19; “The Sun is Also a Star,” Aug. 26; and “Onward,” Sept. 2.
Additionally, Kellstrom says organizers are hoping for a bonus feature day, when “Trolls World Tour” becomes available in September.
