LINCOLN – The Alcona FFA chapter celebrates the 10th Maple Syrup Celebration day this Saturday at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sugar Shack in Lincoln, located at the campus of Alcona Community Schools.
The annual event started in the pring of 2009, but preparation to complete a maple syrup facility dates back to 2005 when the Alcona FFA chapter decided to write grants to build their own facility at Alcona Community High School.
In 2007, the Sugar Shack was added onto a log cabin previously existing on the property and in 2009 the first Maple Syrup Celebration Day commenced.
At the celebration, residents will expect to be served up a free pancake breakfast with all the fixings including Alcona FFA pure Michigan syrup, pork sausage from farmers Kevin and Shannon Rifenbark, coffee provided by the Alcona Coffee Company and the butter from Amish Country Cheese. There will also be tours given of the facility.
The free event will be held on Saturday, March 16 at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sugar Shack near Alcona Community Schools at 51 North Barlow Rd., Lincoln.
