SAND LAKE - The Frosty Invitational Golf Outing, to be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, will give residents a chance to try their hand at an interesting twist on golf, while raising money for Special Olympics.
Golf balls will be substituted with tennis balls and the ice of Sand Lake will replace the greens in this lighthearted version of the game, which starts at 1 p.m. sharp, with registration running from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Sand Lake Sports Bar.
Participants will play two nine-hole courses and return to the bar at around 3:30 p.m. Co-organizer Pat Brown said this year’s theme is superheroes, so people can come dressed as their favorite character.
At the bar, prizes will be given out for best and worst team, longest drive and more. For the first time, a side-by-side will be raffled off.
The invitational will also feature turkey bowling, in which a player tries to hit bowling pins by sliding a turkey across the ice. The winner will take home a turkey.
The cost to register for the invite is $20, and the turkey bowling is $5. Golfers will receive a gift bag and a shirt.
Brown said the event, sponsored by the Wertz Warriors, has grown every year and has raised a significant amount for Special Olympics. He said it’s something fun and different to do during the wintertime.
“It’s just a fun time,” he said. “Nobody’s going out there to be professional.”
Brown praised local businesses for supporting the event by sponsoring holes each year.
“The area really has a big heart,” he said. “They do a lot. If it wasn’t for the sponsorships, it wouldn’t go anywhere.”
