OSCODA – The 8th annual Trivia for Alzheimer’s fundraising event will return this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Oscoda American Legion with registration at 6 p.m.
The event began eight years ago when Papa’s Angels team member Shannon Allison decided that she wanted to create a unique fundraiser to raise money for the annual Alzheimer’s walk in Detroit. The cost is $25 per person to play and participants must be 21 years old to play.
The $25 entry fee allows participants to play as well as enjoy a appetizer and dessert bar consisting of nachos, cupcakes, brownies and more. Throughout the evening, the family will offer three raffles including a 50/50, Chinese and football ticket raffle.
There will be 50/50 and Chinese raffle tickets that will be sold throughout the evening for $1 each, six tickets for $5 or 15 tickets for $10. Chinese raffle prizes are donated by local businesses and vary from wine baskets to gift baskets. This year the Allison’s will also be doing a college football raffle for the University of Michigan versus Michigan State University game on Saturday, Nov. 16. Raffle tickets will be sold during the event at $5 each or 5 tickets for $20.
Trivia will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Participants must be on a team of four to eight people in order to play. Teams can register the night of, but there is a limit of 30 teams and at press time 20 teams have been registered. Questions will vary from pop culture to history and a lot of other topics in between, according to organizers. There will be eight categories with 10 questions per category, according to Allison.
This year, Papa’s Angels is aiming to raise $12,000 for the evening and is expecting between 150 and 170 people to attend. Additionally, there will be a cash prize awarded to the top three teams
All proceeds collected will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Michigan. To register or receive more information contact Allison at 989-254-2558.
