Community members and nonprofit organizations gather at the Huron Shores Artisan Hall to celebrate volunteers. Volunteers were invited in and given tickets for the basket raffle as well as hot dogs, chips and drinks. April is Volunteer Appreciation month.

OSCODA – The Nonprofit Round Table invited local volunteers to a Volunteer Appreciation Celebration held on Thursday, April 18 at the Huron Shores Artisan Hall.

The rainy day brought in many faces and organizations to celebrate all that volunteers do for the community. According to Robert J. Parks Head Librarian Diana London, April is Volunteer Appreciation month which is why the group works to have the event every April.

In the past, the event has taken place at a variety of locations including the Oscoda Township Hall, Oscoda Community Center and the Robert J. Parks Library. This year the Nonprofit Round Table was excited to use the hall. Volunteers were welcomed with joy, gratitude and hot food.

Upon arrival, each volunteer was given tickets to put into bags for the basket raffle. Baskets were created by nonprofits in the community to be raffled off at the end of the event. After placing their tickets in the bags decorated by Jamie Merdzinski’s art classes, volunteers were encouraged to enjoy hot dogs, chips, a drink and desserts.

Throughout the hall, tables were set up by local nonprofits to talk with visitors about what their organizations have to offer. A few organizations that were present included Hope Shores Alliance, The Department of Natural Resources, AuSable Valley Audubon, Iosco County Community Foundation, The American Businesses Women’s Association, The Iosco-Arenac District Library, The Oscoda Rotary Club and The Pine River Van Etten Lake Watershed Coalition among others. Volunteers were also encouraged to take a visit upstairs to have their photo taken.

The Nonprofit Round Table is made up of four individuals including London, Oscoda-AuSable Chamber of Commerce Executive Director (OACC) Rose Fulton, Oscoda Rotary Club President Mary Reitler and Jane Meyer. The Round Table would like to give special thanks to Kalitta Air, Rogers Family Food & Ace Hardware, CooperStandard Oscoda plant, Oscoda Area Schools, Tri-County Agency, Sheila Malewska from Edward Jones, Oscoda Rotary Club, Oscoda Lions Club, The Hanover Insurance Company, OACC and Family Fare.
