OSCODA – Board members at the Oscoda-AuSable Chamber of Commerce (OACC) voted to hire Nancy Howse for the Executive Director position.
Howse moved to Oscoda in 1968, graduated from Oscoda High School in 1974 and went on to Alpena Community College and secured an associate degree in business administration. Aside from baby sitting, she worked at Huron Hardware and Big Boy, just south of town. However, she is best known for working for the Board of Education and retiring in 2007.
“It’s home,” said Howse.
In terms of business, she said currently the OACC hours are Monday-Friday at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but hopes to be open on the weekends starting on Memorial Day.
“You preface everything you say with, this is all based on the current COVID protocols and guidelines. The goal is to be able to have the Chamber open during the weekends especially Memorial Day through Labor Day” said Howse.
She also said she wanted to introduce the board which includes:
Board President Kathy Morgan -Jones
Board Secretary Ann Victoria Hopcroft
Board Treasurer Heidi Brock
Board Members Robert Fabyan, Belle Flora, Connie Gibson, Lain MacKenzie, Sheila Malewska, Nick Revitzer
Board member Alternates Ryan Clouse and Don Nolan.
As far as plans for adding new events, Howse said she would just be happy to have any. Right now plans are in the works for Art on the Beach, which is set for June 26 and 27.
“I’m excited to see what people have been doing, how they’ve passed the time and seeing the crowds again and that’s exciting to me,” said Howse.
Other events in the works include the annual Scholarship Golf event and Paul Bunyan Days.
“For whatever events we’re planning, to the best of our ability, we will follow all COVID-19 protocols guidelines as issued by the township, the state, the federal governments, the CDC, everyone,” said Howse.
As far as her excitement for the position, she said she was grateful for the opportunity.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to showcase the area, the businesses, the people who make all of this work and I’m grateful to have a very wonderful, capable administrative assistant who is a godsend,” said Howse in reference to Julie Kamyszek.
If anyone has any questions, she said don’t hesitate to contact the chamber at 739-7322.
