OSCODA – The Oscoda Area Schools Board of Education met Monday to fulfill their 2019 organizational meeting duties for the upcoming year.
All members of the board were present with the exception of Trustee Rose Fulton. Officers elected to serve during 2019 are Tony Johnson as president, Donald Ellis III as vice president, Mary Reitler as secretary and Tim Kellstrom as treasurer, which follows the appointments exactly as last year.
Additionally, meeting times were approved and will continue to be held on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Board of Education room located in Oscoda High School (OHS). A motion to approve the meeting dates, times and locations was made by Trustee Bill Gaines and was seconded by Trustee Dan Schlink receiving a 6-0 vote of approval with the absence of Fulton.
There were also committee assignments performed, which outlines the duties of the elected chairs, which followed suit with the election of officers. All members of the board will resume the positions they currently hold. Johnson will serve as chair on the superintendent’s evaluation, board policy and finance committees and as board president continue to serve as the Legislative Relations Network (LRN) representative. Additionally, he will continue to serve on the petition of review committee and be the Iosco Regional Educational Service Agency (IRESA) representative.
Ellis will continue to be the alternate check signer, the LRN alternate and the IRESA alternate. Reitler will continue to serve as a key board member and alternate check signer. Additionally, she is a member of the Oscoda Education Opportunity Foundation (OEOF) and will continue to be one of three people responsible for posting board public notices and assisting with election duties.
The other individuals responsible for posting are Superintendent Scott Moore and District General Manager Michael Barnhart. Reitler will also continue to be a representative on the school improvement/NCA team and will serve on the petition review committee. Fulton will serve as an alternate on the OEOF.
Gaines will continue to serve as a member of the board policy committee and be a representative of the school improvement/NCA team. Kellstrom will continue to serve as representative of the school improvement/NCA team.
Schlink will continue to serve on the petition review and board policy committees as well as serve as a representative of the district school improvement/NCA team.
