STRUCTURE FIRE

The Oscoda Township Fire Department and Police Department responded to a structure fire at 5003 Cedar Lake Rd. on Tuesday, May 7, at approximately 1:13 p.m. Personnel on the scene learned that a 46-year-old male was inside the building upon arrival.

OSCODA – A structure fire at 5003 Cedar Lake Rd. on Tuesday, May 7, claimed the life of Brock Thomas Kellstrom, 46, Oscoda.

According to a report from the Oscoda Township Police Department (OTPD), at approximately 1:13 p.m. the Oscoda Township Fire Department (OTFD) and OTPD were dispatched to the scene. Upon arriving, at approximately 1:17 p.m. it was discovered that Kellstrom was inside the building.

As stated in the report, arriving personnel noted the structure was engulfed in heavy smoke and flames. Fire crews were able to remove him and attempted to resuscitate. Kellstrom was pronounce deceased on the scene by emergency first responders.

Police said the property is formerly known as Earl’s Aquarium and Resale Shop which was being converted to facilitate the production of marijuana and marijuana products for medical marijuana patients. Kellstrom was associated with the medical marijuana operation.

According to OTPD Det. Sergeant Erik McNichol, the whole center of the building is gone and is considered to be a total loss. The metal pole building attached at the rear is able to be repaired, he said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation though it does not appear to be suspicious, he said. Further, no neighboring buildings were effected by the blaze.
