HUBBARD LAKE – On July 18 Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched to an address in Ossineke Township in Alpena County regarding a report of a home invasion and assault that had just occurred.
The male resident/victim reported that another male entered the home without permission and assaulted him. Evidence suggested the suspect was upset over the victim’s relationship with an ex-girlfriend. The victim had lacerations to his head, requiring stitches.
The suspect was identified as 45-year-old Tait Jason Mahlmeister of Hubbard Lake. He fled the scene the night of the incident and couldn’t be located.
A warrant request was submitted to the Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office, who issued a felony warrant charging Mahlmeister with 1st-degree home invasion and assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder.
Mahlmeister turned himself in at the Alpena County Jail on July 26. Mahlmeister waived his arraignment, and his bond has been set at $200,000. He is currently scheduled for a probable cause hearing on Aug. 8 in the 88th District Court.
