OSCODA – Jahleel Paul Garza-Harper, 24, Flint, drowned in the AuSable River this past weekend, according to the Oscoda Township Police Department (OTPD).

It was at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Saturday when the Oscoda Township Dive Rescue Team, OTPD, Iosco County EMS and a Michigan Conservation Officer were dispatched to the Lake State Railroad trestle – on the Ausable River in Oscoda Township – for a possible drowning.

The OTPD states that, upon arrival, officers were advised by family members that Garza-Harper jumped off the trestle into the water and subsequently drowned.

The Oscoda Township Dive Rescue Team recovered the victim at approximately 7:40 p.m.

It was reported that Garza-Harper did not know how to swim, and that alcohol may have been a factor in the drowning.
