FOSTER Twp. – Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) West Branch Post are investigating a collision in Ogemaw County, which occurred on Sept. 15, involving a truck and a pedestrian.

Troopers were dispatched at approximately 8:06 p.m. to Clear Lake Road, near Oakwood Drive in Foster Township, for a personal injury traffic crash.

Investigation thus far indicates that Tyler Skutt, 28, West Branch, was riding his custom three-wheel rickshaw bicycle northbound on Clear Lake Road, when he was struck from behind by a 2010 Ford pickup.

The truck was being driven by Kenneth Labean, 29, who is also a resident of West Branch.

The MSP reports that Skutt was ejected from the bicycle and sustained serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment, and was subsequently life flighted to a downstate hospital.

As of noon the day after the incident, Skutt was listed as being in stable condition. Police state that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

According to authorities, Labean left the scene of the crash.  Troopers were able to locate him and his vehicle a short distance away.

The incident remains under investigation, and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor.

The MSP Troopers were assisted on scene by Ogemaw County EMS and the MSP Third District Traffic Crash Reconstructionist.
