BALDWIN Twp. – Oscoda Township Police Department (OTPD) Chief Mark David reports that an approximately 200- to 225-pound black bear was killed by a vehicle on May 31.
The incident occurred in Baldwin Township on US-23, near Julie Avenue, by the Baldwin/AuSable Township line.
David notes that the driver – Nora Grace Bouchard, 59, Alpena – was uninjured during the crash, which took place at about 1:45 a.m.
According to the OTPD, Bouchard was traveling north on US-23 when a bear entered the roadway and caused a collision with the vehicle. The Chrysler 300 she was driving at the time experienced functional damage.
Police advise that there was no hazardous action on the driver’s part, and that neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have contributed to the incident.
