OSCODA – The Oscoda Township Police Department (OTPD) was dispatched on Sept. 17, just before 5 p.m., to a collision involving a moped and a pickup truck.
They state that Micah James Hudson, 37, Mikado, was operating a moped and traveling north on M-65, near Kings Corner Road.
Also northbound at that time was Amanda Ann Walker, 31, Turner, who was driving a Dodge Ram 2500 and pulling a trailer.
According to the OTPD, Hudson was traveling on the shoulder of M-65. As Walker approached him, she moved over to the left and straddled the northbound and southbound lane, continuing north. Hudson then turned left from the shoulder of the road, into the side of the pickup truck.
Police claim that he did not use a turn signal or show any indications of turning left.
Hudson was ejected from the moped, sustained incapacitating injuries and received medical treatment at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City.
He was wearing a helmet, and authorities say that neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.
Walker and one of her passengers – Flora Deanne Vanwieringen, 65, Spruce – were unharmed. But possible injuries were sustained by the other passenger, Kelly Ann Silber, 60, Turner.
All three of the women were wearing seat belts, and the OTPD notes that there was no hazardous action on Walker’s part during the incident.
