OSCODA – It’s safe to say that the regular season went pretty well for the Oscoda volleyball team. The Lady Owls are hoping that success continues into the post-season, as they battle in the division three Alcona district this week.

“We have a really strong team this year and they are a very hard-working group,” head coach Melissa Curley said. “There isn’t anyone I don’t trust to put on the court. Our passing has been great and that’s where the game starts. Nothing else positive can happen if we can’t pass.”

Oscoda went 19-9-8 overall this season and was a perfect 10-0 in North Star League play, winning the Big Dipper. Oscoda also won the NSL tournament on Oct. 26, which was also held at Alcona.

The Owls open the post-season tonight (Wednesday) against fellow NSL school Whittemore-Prescott.

“Whittemore has some great servers, so we need to stay focused on our passing game and moving quickly into position. Another big key to getting a win Wednesday will be covering our hitters against the block.”

Roscommon and Alcona played in the pre-district game on Monday, with the winner playing Houghton Lake tonight (Wednesday) in the other semi-final. The championship game is slated for Friday at 7 p.m.

“I think the same goes for all the teams in the district this year,” Curley said. “They all have strong serves and if we are focused in on serve-receive, we have a strong shot at the district title this year.”
