Oscoda’s Michael Wrona looks to center the ball. 

LINCOLN – The Oscoda soccer team played a tough Roscommon team close to the end in the two’s division four district championship game on Saturday. The Owls came up just short however, as they lost the contest to the Bucks 1-0, in a contest played at Alcona. 

The game was played in a scoreless tie until 2:54 to play, when Roscommon’s Jackson Strickler was able to find the back of the net. 

On Tuesday, Oct. 20 the Owls were able to reach the finals, thanks to a 2-1 win in the semi-finals over Alcona. The Owls outshot the Tigers 19-3 in the game, but struggled at times to find the net. 

Oscoda netted its first goal in the 33rd minute, thanks to an assist by Justin Travis.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the second half, John Stephan was able to score the game-winner, finding the back of the net with 13 minutes to play, thanks to an assist by Aiden Backstrom. 

Brendan Apsitis was in goal and made one save, with Backstrom adding one non-keeper save. Axline had three steals and three intercepts, John Heisner had two steals and four intercepts and Shane Nowiski added two steals and three intercepts. 

Oscoda finishes the season 10-5-3 overall and won the North Star League championship with a perfect 6-0 record.
