BROOKLYN – Iosco County was well represented at the cross county state championships on Saturday. Five area runners competed at Brooklyn’s Michigan International Speedway, two of which earned All-State honors.

Whittemore-Prescott senior Zane Aldrich was the area’s top finisher as he finished in sixth place in the Division 4 race, timing out at 16:38. This was Aldrich’s third state finals race having finished 65th as a sophomore and 24th last year.

“Zane is the hardest working athlete I have ever coached, period,” W-P head coach Jeff Erickson said. “He hasn’t missed a day of distance running in almost two and a half years. I don’t know how many high school kids can say that but I would guess it isn’t many.

“This is the kid that I will be telling my runners about 10 to 20 years from now,” he added. “What he was able to accomplish in his career is nothing short of incredible. This is a kid who barely broke 26 minutes his first meet as a freshman and had a PR of 21:10 his freshman year.”
