OSCODA – A long layoff didn’t hurt the Oscoda swim team on Saturday. The Lady Owls hadn’t competed in a meet in several weeks, but still had a good showing at the Independent Swim Conference championships at Saginaw Valley State University.

Gaylord won the meet with 485 points, while Oscoda was in sixth place out of seven teams, with 268 points.

“We finished in sixth, but we had lots of high finishes,” coach Lorrie Mongeau said. “We are also very pleased to announce that our swimmer Lexi LaJoice tied for Swimmer of the Meet. This is a high honor that is given by the coaches to the swimmer. Lexi placed first in both of her events and shared this honor with Hailey Dowd of Essexville-Garber.”

LaJoice won in the 50-yard freestyle and the butterfly.
