TAWAS CITY – Speed, power and defense. Tawas Area senior Ivy Schaaf can do it all. Starting next year, Schaaf will be doing it all for Western Michigan University. Schaaf, an infielder with the Lady Braves recently signed a letter of intent to join the Lady Bronco’s softball program.
“I’m beyond excited about playing for Western,” Schaaf said. “They have an awesome program and a great school. It’s going to be a huge transition from high school and travel softball and a lot more work, but I think I’ll be able to handle it.”
Schaaf, who is also a starting guard on the Lady Braves basketball team, will enter her fourth season with Tawas’ varsity softball this spring and has already put up impressive numbers in her high school career. She’s hit over .400 all three years, including hitting .410 last year, adding 10 home runs, 27 RBI and 44 stolen bases. Her combined three-year totals are a .421 average, 14 home runs, 74 RBI, 78 stolen bases, 141 hits, 159 runs and 12 triples.
