LEWISTON – The Whittemore-Prescott volleyball team had its season come to an end in the district semi-finals on Wednesday, Nov. 4. The Lady Cardinals were battling Oscoda in division three action at Johannesburg-Lewiston, but came up short 25-12, 25-20 and 25-19.
“The first game we came out slow, we gave up too many errors,” head coach Cathy Blust said. “In the second and third sets, we were able to organize our offense better, but in the end it wasn’t enough.”
Skylar Swanson led the team with seven kills and four blocks, Allie Schmidt added five kills and four aces, Halle Hudson added four kills and two aces, Americus Caron chipped in with two kills and an ace and Payge Zilinsky had one kill.
“At the beginning of the season, it was up in the air whether we would even have a season,” Blust said. “We were required to hold practices outside, on makeshift grass courts; it was tough. We were up and down, but the girls did everything they were asked to do. As a coach, you can’t ask for too much more. I’m thankful that they were able to have a season after having a disappointing spring sports season.”
