TAWAS CITY – The Tawas Area golf team played within a few strokes of Grayling for most of its match on Thursday, at the Grayling Country Club. The Vikings managed to keep ahead of the Braves, however, handing them a 215-220 loss.
Alex Kaems had the lowest score of either team, carding a 41. Robert Jenkins hit for a 56, with a 57 was Sherman Hayes and Jonathan Aylett and Everett Hanson each shot a 66.
“Very close match,” head coach Paul Vainer said. “Alex won by nine strokes. Everett and Robert shot their best rounds of the year so far.”
On Wednesday, April 28, the Braves were in a match at the Nightmare Golf Course in West Branch, against Ogemaw Heights and Houghton Lake.
Kaems hit a 39 to once again have the low score, Jenkins hit a 60, Hayes carded a 63 Aylett added a 65 and Hansen was in with a 72.
“Kaems can make every shot on the course needed to compete at the highest level,” Vainer said. “One thing you have to remember is he really only picked up the game last summer. So, he has shown tremendous progress extremely quickly. As he gains experience and confidence, I am certain his score has nowhere to go but down.”
Tawas is at the West Branch Country Club on Thursday, in a tournament hosted by Ogemaw Heights.
