TAWAS CITY – Tawas Area senior Alysse Russo has put in the work to be a successful high school softball player. Now, Russo is hoping that translate to success at the next level as she recently signed to play college softball at Cleary University.
“I worked really hard for this, so I’m just really thrilled about it,” she said. “I can’t wait to start.”
Russo expects to play catcher and be used as a utility player for the Cougars, who went 30-17 last season and lost in the USCAA National Championship game last spring.
“I went down there for a tour since one of my friends recommended the school because she went there,” Russo said. “I really liked the coach and the teammates; I spent the night in the dorms with the freshmen players and went from there and did some more tours. I liked the small town feel because that’s where I come from and they are also a huge business school, which is what I’m going into.”
Russo plans to major in business management.
“I was pulled up to varsity as a freshman so I have a lot of experience with older players and I also have played travel ball downstate since I was 10,” Russo said of her playing experience. “I’m going to go the gym and prepare myself and still practice all the time and keep myself healthy and strong and ready for the season.”
