EAST TAWAS – The area’s holiday running tradition is set to enter its 13th rendition. The Turkey Trot, a 5K road race will be held on Friday, Nov. 29 in downtown East Tawas.
The race will support the Tawas Area varsity cross country team and begins at 4 p.m., and will start at the East Tawas Community Center. Racers will loop around Bolen Park, then head through residential areas near Tawas Lake and through Dewey Durant. The race finishes near Newman and Westover streets in downtown East Tawas, to coincide with the tree lighting ceremony and holiday parade.
Restrooms and locker rooms are available at the start and warming area near the finish. Reflective clothing, costumes and lights are encouraged. Medals will be awarded to the top finishers in each age group and there will also be a Little Turkey Trot (no entry fee), a 400-meter sprint for children.
Registration for the race is $20 prior to Friday, Nov. 22, with the fee increasing to $25 afterwards. Entrants receive a custom neck gaiter, while supplies last.
Last year’s race had 60 runners, with Zach Gerber of Traverse City winning the mens race in a time of 17:45, while Anna Alexander of Swartz Creek was the first women’s finisher at 23:15.
