WHITTEMORE – Blake Katterman knocked down his second of two free-throws with 1.8 seconds left in host Tawas Area’s opening round district game against Whittemore-Prescott, giving the Braves just enough to top the Cardinals 41-40 on Monday, March 5.
“It was a great high school basketball game,” Tawas head coach Drew Decker said. “Both teams played their hearts out. We were just lucky enough to come out on top at the end of the game.”
“It was tough, it was a hard fought game though,” W-P head coach Reuben Edwards added. “Both sides played hard. It came down to a free throw. It is tough, but that’s how it goes.”
Kyle Gamez opened the game with a three-pointer to give W-P an early lead, with teammate Jose Rodriguez keeping the Cards ahead 10-3 late in the first with a three ball of his own. Tawas closed the frame on a Katterman three-pointer to cut the gap to 10-8 after the first.
