POPPY SALE PROFITS
POPPY SALE PROFITS
POPPY SALE PROFITS – The Iosco County Veterans Affairs (VA) Office received a $2,000 contribution on Jan. 31, which was generated from the latest Poppy Program drive held by American Legion Post 422 of Hale and its Auxiliary. Accepting the checks on behalf of the VA, each of which were for $1,000 – one from the Legion and one from the Auxiliary – was Iosco County Veterans Service Officer Ron Whitney. Pictured here at the VA Office in Tawas City that day, from left, are Whitney, Auxiliary Chaplain and Poppy Program Chairperson Marlene Polishak, Legion Commander Doug Walter and Legion Adjutant Chuck Carroll. Along with the county’s VA food pantry seeing an increase in use, Whitney notes that there has also been a rise in the number of homeless vets. “And that’s where this helps,” he said of the donation, which will go to the local Soldier’s Relief Fund. According to Polishak, the contributions were collected around Memorial Day this past year, and all of the money raised from the poppy sales remains local. In addition to those who purchased one, she credited Roger’s Family Foods of Hale, Bernard Building Center, Alward’s Market and Hale Hardware, for allowing the veterans group to sell the poppies at their businesses.
