Tawas Area’s Hunter Nelkie chases after the ball during last week’s home loss to Alpena.

TAWAS CITY – The Tawas Area soccer team came up on the short end against Alpena on Wednesday. The visiting Wildcats, proved their mettle by topping the Braves with a 9-1 victory.

“Alpena is always a tough matchup and it showed again (this game), they controlled the ball very well at the midfield causing constant pressure on our defense,” assistant coach Jeff Brettrager said. “The one good thing that we can take away from this loss is seeing how a good caliber team performs.”

Jesse Michalski scored Tawas’ lone goal unassisted. Gavin Spencer had 10 saves in goal and Jon Aylett had four saves in net.

Tawas (2-5 overall) heads to Oscoda today (Wednesday), plays at Traverse City Christian on Friday and hosts Ogemaw Heights on Tuesday.
